This cake was ordered by Aoife for her parents’ 40th Wedding Anniversary.  She wanted little figurines of them depicting their hobbies and interests.  Her mum is a retired teacher, who loves playing bridge.  So I made some tiny little sugarpaste English, Irish, and Maths books  to put on the cake behind her, and some playing cards beside her.  Her dad is a retired policeman, who loves gardening.  So I made him wearing his garda cap, and there is a tiny little trowel and fork beside him (which can’t be seen in this picture).  There are also bushes and flowers behind him.

The cake itself was a 9-inch chocolate sponge, filled with chocolate buttercream, and covered with sugarpaste.  All of the little handmade details on top of the cake are completely edible.
