Ann from Maynooth ordered this cake for her son Ben.  I actually made Ben’s Christening cake – love my repeat customers!  I made a vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream, and carved it into the shape of the number 2.  I handmade 4 little characters to go on the cake – Special Agent Oso, Mickey Mouse, Lightning McQueen and a little white West Highland Terrier.  They are all little Ben’s favourites.

I also made a dozen matching cupcakes with the number 2 on them.  A closeup picture of the handmade and completely edible models is below

I made this cake for a very dear friend of mine, Sophie.  I made a lemon sponge and filled it with lemon buttercream.   I then covered the cake in jade-coloured sugarpaste.  The lace was made using sugarveil icing, and is completely edible.  It was my first time to try out sugarveil, and I love it… it would look fabulous draped over wedding cakes too!  I made a couple of little filigree birds and painted in the filigree details with edible gold paint.  The birds are on the sides of the cake, so you can’t see them very well from the front but I took a pic of one of them to show you. 

 Sophie lives in Paris, and I am in Ireland, so in order to go to her 40th birthday party and get the cake to her I had to bring it on a Ryanair flight as hand luggage!!!  I had to keep the decorations relatively simple in case of travel-related breakages, but am delighted to say that it got there in one piece and was enjoyed by all, including me.  Yay!!

Lorna from Maynooth ordered this cake for a very special reason.  Her sister is going through treatment for breast cancer, and the family wanted to get her a cake to show what a fighter she is.  The Supergirl logo seemed to fit the bill perfectly!  I wish her many years of health and happiness

Sabrina from Lucan ordered this cake for her son Cian’s 2nd birthday.  He loves Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Toy Story.  I handmade them from modelling paste, and the headboard and footboard of the bed were made a couple of days earlier, to allow them time to dry.   The bed was made from a 10″ sponge, cut into the shape of the bed, and covered with sugarpaste.

I love love love this cake!  Siobhán and Derek from Lucan ordered it for their twins’ Christening.  I carved a bowl-shaped cake and a round cake into the shape of the bottom half of the boat, and a smaller square cake into the cabin part for the top.  All the little pairs of animals are handmade from modelling paste and completely edible.  There are paper lollipop sticks helping to support their heads in some cases, though!  As the babies are a boy and a girl, I used nice soft pastel colours in pink, blue and lemon for the boat.  The original design is by the amazing Debbie Brown.

The cake itself was a lemon sponge bottom tier, with a chocolate sponge top tier.  This cake would be lovely for many different occasions and can be personalised - Christenings, birthdays, baby showers, maybe even engagements…!?
